About Online Courses

Pursue the education necessary for freedom and happiness in courses taught by Hillsdale College's faculty.

Hillsdale College Extends Founding Mission

Hillsdale College was founded in 1844 with a mission to provide "all who wish to learn" the education necessary to preserve the civil and religious liberties of America. The founders of Hillsdale College understood, like the founders of our great nation, that free government requires independent, virtuous, and knowledgeable citizens.

In 2011 Hillsdale launched its online courses program to extend this mission and to teach the core subjects of a Hillsdale education free of charge. Since that time, more than 4.2 million Americans have partnered with us in this effort.

Our courses are created for every American who wishes to embark upon a life-changing education in the greatest ideas and texts of Western Civilization. The only requirements are a desire for truth and a love of liberty.

A Lifetime of Learning

Hillsdale's free online courses feature lectures from top Hillsdale College professors. The lecture videos are supported by quizzes, readings, supplementary videos, study guides, and discussion boards.

These not-for-credit courses are self-paced so that our online course students can pursue their education at their own leisure.

Testimonials

This is what our students are saying about us.

Takes the student through the full context of the course subject matter. Wonderful insight into how we strayed and its consequences and offers a solution.

Don from Nevada

Our online courses are inspired by Hillsdale College's core curriculum—which accounts for one-half of our undergraduate education.

They provide a coherent citizen's education in the liberal arts, which pursues high learning, teaches the Christian faith, forms character, and defends freedom.
